We are no longer seeking Tree Designers for the 2023 Festival of Trees. If you would like to decorate a mini tree for the silent auction instead, you can sign up HERE.

FAQs

What is a Tree Designer?

The creative visionary behind a beautifully decorated tree! We do not hire professional designers to decorate the trees; all Tree Designers are volunteers who care about the mission of Hiawatha Homes. This can be one person or a whole team. Examples of past Tree Designers include church groups, teams of employees, college students, and local business owners. Anyone can design a tree - no experience required! We will support you along the way by providing designer guidelines, answering questions, and helping brainstorm ideas.

What Are the Benefits?

The talents of our Tree Designers are a key component of the Festival of Trees success. Most importantly, your volunteerism will be supporting Hiawatha Homes, a nonprofit organization that provides support services for individuals living with disabilities in Olmsted county. You will also receive additional benefits as a vital part of this event:

Two Tickets to the Designer Thank You Brunch - NEW this year, you will enjoy mimosas, a delicious breakfast, and fun activities. The Brunch will be held on Saturday, Nov 25th 9a.m. to 11a.m. at the Kahler Grand Hotel (The Thank You Brunch replaces the Opening Night Gala as a Designer benefit.).
Entry into Designer Days - This year we will have TWO Designer Days, on Sunday Nov 19 noon to 6 p.m. and Monday, Nov 20 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. . Lunch will be served on Monday.
Entry into the People's Choice Tree Award - NEW this year, the general public will vote on their favorite trees. The top three trees will receive special prizes and recognition!
Tax Deductible Donation - The cost of your décor is tax deductible as allowed by law (we can provide a tax receipt upon request).

How Much Will It Cost?

For the first time this year, all trees will have lights included. There is a $25 fee for a six-foot pre-lit tree and a $50 fee for an eight-foot pre-lit tree. These fees are considerably less than the cost of the trees for Hiawatha Homes. You will pick up your tree in advance on one of our tree pick up days, to be announced in the coming months.

For tree decorations, that is up to you! Our Designer Co-Chairs can provide suggestions and assistance with tree décor decisions. You can also visit our Designer Guidelines for more information on tree decorating.

Where Will I Decorate My Tree?

You can choose to decorate your tree on your own time, or at Designer Days. Designer Days will be held on Sunday, Nov 19 from noon to 6 p.m. and on Monday, Nov 20 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kahler Grand Hotel. Bring your tree, decorations, supplies, and anything else you might need. Together with other Tree Designers you will assemble your creation for display. There will be volunteers available to help and our Designer Co-Chairs to provide tree decorating expertise. On Monday, lunch will be served and both days will have some great door prizes.

If you decide to decorate your tree on your own time, it must be delivered to the Kahler Grand Hotel on one of the Designer Days.

Do I Get to Keep My Tree?

The only way to have your very own tree from the Festival is by becoming an Underwriter. Underwriters, commonly known as sponsors, financially support the Festival of Trees and receive a beautifully decorated tree, event recognition, and more! Underwriter levels start at $1,000. If you decide to become an Underwriter, your tree can be pre-selected and delivered to your location of choice after the event.
